Hosted Exchange in Private Cloud
Matrix Communications is the world’s largest independent provider of Hosted Exchange, the leading platform for unifying a business’s email, calendar and contacts. We recognize that each client has its own unique requirements and needs to adapt to rapidly changing environments. Dedicated Exchange by Matrix Communications enables enterprise businesses to be flexible and secure while providing them the ability to scale with speed, in a way that addresses their specific IT needs.
Enterprises have different regulations and challenges when it comes to security and control. This is why we offer Private Cloud and our flagship product Hosted Exchange in a single-tenant deployment which is flexible enough to meet an organization’s unique challenges and offers new capabilities for your business email that were not previously possible in a public or shared cloud, such as:
→ More Integration: Dedicated Hosted Exchange lets you integrate your business email with internal systems and legacy applications – giving you more control over data, applications and services.
→ Customization Capabilities: Hosted Exchange in a dedicated cloud is often the only choice for customization, giving you the flexibility to address specific IT needs.
→ Enhanced Security and Privacy: In a dedicated cloud, customers’ data resides on a dedicated server. The provider can customize specific security parameters and has more room for additional privacy measures.
→ Flexible Costs: A private cloud can be hosted by the provider or on-premise using the hardware of the subscriber – which eliminates the need for migration.
→ Better Control: With Dedicated Exchange, you can customize your data replication environment and enable disaster recovery.
Cloud on Your Terms, Not the Vendor’s Terms
As you consider moving to the cloud or evaluating alternatives to the standard cloud solution in the market, be aware that private clouds offer customization and integration capabilities that can enhance data security and privacy. With our cloud on your terms approach our clients are not constrained by the vendor’s terms that apply to all their clients with a one size fits all or all-or-nothing policy.
Instead we build private cloud solutions that are tailor-made and design around your business to meet your growing and changing needs and allow you to focus on your business and what will differentiate you from the competition.
Which cloud terms can you customize in Dedicated Exchange with Matrix Communications?
→ Product offering: we offer not only Hosted Exchange in private cloud but also Skype for Business, ShareSync and Sharepoint, plus more than 20 essential IT cloud services so that you can design the perfect productivity and communication solution for your business.
→ Disaster recovery: some enterprises require the ability to replicate corporate data to a second data center located in a different geography. With Matrix Communications’ Dedicated Exchange, you can get a customizable data replication environment that lets you choose multiple options in terms of number of sites to have and how replication happens.
→ Service level and support: we can discuss your needs and on top of our 99.999% SLA and Worry-Free ExperienceTM you can have a dedicated Strategic Client Service Manager that knows well your challenges and is always available to respond to your questions and analyze new requirements.
→ Customization and integrations: you can combine cloud email while continuing to use your critical legacy applications to achieve a perfect mix of security and scalability.
Data Replication Options
Matrix Communications offers three options for your private cloud:
→ One active datacenter with redundant on-site mailbox replication
→ One datacenter with passive replication to a second datacenter
→ Two datacenters with active replication in both datacenters
One of the chief benefits of moving to the cloud is the ability to have your data replicated and synchronized across several sites. Data replication ensures that your data is always available and supports strong disaster recovery policies, giving you a contingency plan to protect against the failure or shutdown of your critical SaaS services.
Some enterprises may need to customize their data replication strategy to meet specific needs. When that is the case, we recommend that you choose a dedicated cloud deployment.
For the purposes of disaster recovery, a dedicated cloud deployment gives you more control over the data replication model. For example, some enterprises require the ability to replicate corporate data to a second datacenter located in a different geography. Or they want to complement data replication with a back-up to their own datacenter, so they have the option of a direct connection from the datacenter of a dedicated cloud vendor.
With Matrix Communications’ Private Cloud, you can get a customizable data replication environment that lets you choose the number of sites you use and how replication happens.
Matrix Communications offers three options for your private cloud:
→ One active datacenter with redundant on-site replication — Real-time replication between separate sets of physical infrastructure (A, B) inside the primary datacenter. A ‘Active’ replica; B ‘Passive’ replica.
→ One datacenter with passive replication to a second datacenter — Real-time replication between separate sets of physical infrastructure (A, B) inside the primary datacenter. A ‘Active site, active replica’; B ‘Active site, passive replica’; C ‘Passive site, passive replica’.
→ Two datacenters with active replication in both datacenters — Active site selection. A ‘active site, active replica’; B/C passive replicas of A. D ‘active site, active replica’; E/F passive replicas of D.

Private Cloud Details
What is a “Private” Cloud?
Compare our Managed Public and Private Cloud solutions.
Public
In our Managed Public Cloud model, we provide access to the infrastructure as well as services for monitoring and managing the operating system, applications and middle-ware. In this model the cloud infrastructure is hosted in our data centers and the networking, storage and compute resources can potentially be shared among multiple subscribers as a multi-tenant environment.
Private
In our Managed Private Cloud, the infrastructure is not shared. This is also known as “single-tenant” or “dedicated” cloud. Access to the dedicated cloud is limited to an organization and implemented for a defined set of internal users. However, from the end-user perspective, the services are similar or identical to those hosted in a public cloud. In our dedicated cloud, we offer the same level of Worry-Free Experience™ that you get in our shared environment, plus an assigned Strategic Client Services Manager and the centralized management though our proprietary control panel, HostPilot®.
Is a Private Cloud Right for You?
A private cloud is not for everyone. In fact, in many cases, it can be the wrong decision. To help you understand your needs, we’ve assembled the four most important questions you can ask yourself to determine if having a dedicated cloud is good for your company.
In the following table you can see the main differences between our Managed Public Cloud (shared environment) and our Managed Private Cloud (dedicated environment).
1. Do you need to integrate your cloud with internally-used business applications?
If you need customized integration between your Matrix Communications services and your business applications, you can get this done with Matrix Communications’ Private Cloud. We provide integrations with cloud-based or on-premises business applications like Mobile Device Management solutions, custom SharePoint installations, unified messaging systems, and content archiving systems, among many others.
2. Do you need some kind of customization in your cloud environment?
Here are some customization examples that are only available in a dedicated cloud: IP-address restrictions, IPsec VPN connectivity, MPLS/peering available, in-line security appliances, collocated equipment or customized tape rotation.
3. Do you need to roll out new services and capabilities in a more agile way?
Agility and speed is one of the main drivers in Private Cloud adoption. Consider having a dedicated cloud if you’re looking to scale quickly, turn on and off services with a low barrier to entry, enable new capabilities, test and experiment with new solutions.
4. Do you need data replication across multiple datacenters?
Private Cloud from Matrix Communications provides options for replication in one or two datacenters and supports your disaster recovery plan. This is not available in a public cloud environment.
Next Steps
If you answered “no” to the questions above, then a private cloud may not be right for you. However, if you answered “yes” to one or more of these questions, then it is indeed worth pursuing.
